Lake Arbor Memorial Foundation for Junior Golf
Access to the game of golf is difficult for young people because of the high cost of green fees, the cost of learning the game, and the cost of equipment. To further the wishes of past advocates of Lake Arbor Junior Golf, The Memorial Junior Golf Program has been set up. The program™s goal for juniors is to make golf available and accessible to youth with support of positive developmental efforts and programs. Through the year, Lake Arbor offers special rates for juniors (ages 7 to 18): $9.00 for 18 holes in the afternoon on weekdays. In addition, Lake Arbor offers a junior golf clinic, a five-week series of lessons teaching the game of golf. Each Tuesday between 7 am and noon, juniors are taught the basics of putting, chipping, and the full swing. The student-to-teacher ratio is kept low to allow for the most individualized attention to the junior golfer by the golf instructors.
Lake Arbor and West Woods golf courses also have junior clubs which any junior golfer may use FREE!
Lake Arbor Memorial Golf Programs major fund-raiser is the Lake Arbor Memorial Golf Tournament. Funds received from this tournament are used initially to facilitate access to golf for under privileged junior golfers through donations of workable equipment and donated funds. Lake Arbor loans equipment free of charge to junior golfers who cannot afford to buy equipment. The Lake Arbor Memorial fund was also proud to help five high school seniors who had financial difficulties in attending college. All these students worked for Lake Arbor this summer and attended Colorado Colleges.
The fund was also used to help underprivileged children who could not afford to be in the Lake Arbors Junior clinic series. This last year was the first year of the Junior Tournament Series. The tournament series is made up of four tournaments played at Lake Arbor Golf Club and West Woods Golf Club. The juniors received points for how well they played and the individuals with the most points represent their club in the Arvada Cup. The Arvada Cup is played like the Ryder Cup with matches held between Lake Arbor and West Woods Golf Clubs. The Ryder Cup format is really fun for the kids it builds friendships and teaches the kids how to work as partners. West Woods won last year and received the coveted Arvada Cup for display in the West Woods pro-shop. As you can see the Lake Arbor Memorial Fund for junior golf is used in many worthwhile youth programs. This year the tournament will be on May 13th with an 8:00 AM Shot Gun Start.
